WHAT I DO

If you're raising a child with big emotions, tricky dynamics, or complex health needs (and trying to hold it together yourself), you’re in the right place.

Hi! I’m Hilary -

a clinical counsellor and mom who helps families navigate emotional health with warmth, evidence-based care, and zero judgment.

Over the years, I’ve supported children, adults or parents, couples, and families across British Columbia — in hospitals, nonprofits, health authorities, and private practice. Today, much of my work involves partnering with pediatricians to provide specialized care for families navigating anxiety, somatic symptoms (when stress shows up in the body), burnout, and a range of other mental health concerns.

My approach is simple and human. I believe therapy should feel warm, safe, and collaborative — a space where we talk about what matters, laugh (and cry) sometimes, and work on things that actually make life better. Each session is tailored to the needs of the person (or family) in front of me, drawing from Emotion-Focused Therapy, CBT, and Family Systems.

What I’m best known for:

  • Helping parents feel more confident, equipped, and less alone

  • Supporting children and teens through emotional or somatic struggles

  • Offering couples therapy that goes deeper than communication tools

  • Speaking about hard topics (like shame, burnout, and the mind-body connection) in ways that feel relatable and hopeful

Whether I’m working with a child in session, supporting an exhausted parent, or speaking to a room full of clinicians, I care deeply about creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and empowered — not judged or overwhelmed.

The personal Stuff

When I’m not in session, you’ll find me chasing my kids around the backyard, re-reading Brené Brown or Dan Siegel, or attempting to turn complex mental health concepts into Instagram posts.

I love the outdoors, sports, coaching (especially with our local Special Olympics team), live music, gardening and a good podcast — usually something about medicine or psychology.

I grew up primarily in the Lower Mainland and now live here with my husband and our two kids. Over the years, I’ve also had the opportunity to live in Ontario, New Brunswick, India, and Tennessee — each of which has shaped how I see the world and how I show up in my work.

Raised by an engineer and now married to one, I’ve always appreciated the overlap between logic and emotion. It’s part of why I love helping people understand their inner worlds in a clear, grounded way - without losing the human side of things.

I personally identify as a Christian. While some clients value integrating their faith into therapy, I see that as a deeply personal choice - and one that’s entirely up to you. I work with individuals and families from all walks of life and faith backgrounds.

I aim to create a space that is welcoming and inclusive of all identities and bodies. You are safe to be fully yourself here.
